Music Making

I couldn't sleep tonight for some reason.  I had a lot on my mind.  I decided to pull out my keyboard and make some music.  I am not sure why Hate On Me from the Glee soundtrack was in my head but I was just messing around with the intro to the song.  Let me know what you all think.  I have been playing a lot more lately so hopefully there will be more to come. The To Be Surprised cover is what Michael Schultz and I recorded a few weeks ago. All comments are welcome so please let me know what you all think. Enjoy!

Working at Nucor

I really haven't posted much in a while. Actually, it's been over 6 months. So I though I would fill everyone in on what I have been up too. This summer I have been working at Nucor Steel in Crawfordsville, IN. I have been working as a safety coordinator with two other interns. It has been a huge learning experience so far. Here are some pictures I've taken in and around the mill. Enjoy!

Brushing in the Backcountry

It always feels nice to brush your teeth after a day of eating gorp, beef jerky, and whatever you might have had for dinner (unless the gorp and beef jerky was your dinner).  It is a pain lugging your toothbrush and your toothpaste with you on every trip.  I stumbled upon this sweet product today.  It is called the Toob Brush (see figure 1).  This is a cool device that puts the toothpaste and toothbrush into one compact device.  This is perfect for camping and backpacking.

This compact toothbrush is simple to use.  You fill up the toothpaste compartment that is stored in the bottom of the brush and you are good to go (see figure 2).  The best part of the whole Toob is that it comes in different colors.  This way you guys won't be stuck with a pink toothbrush.  You have the options of black, ice, blue and cranberry (see figure 3).

For only $5 I am not sure if I can pass up this deal.  Or maybe I can for now because I am a poor college student.  This would be a great stocking stuffer! Hint hint mom and dad.  I especially like the ice one.

You can read more about the Toob Brush here: http://www.yourhealthysmile.com/toob.html

What do you readers think of this?  Feel free to comment.  I am interested to see what you all think.

Finally! I'm hitting the trails.

I am finally hitting the trails this weekend with my friend Andrew.  He is bring his camera so there will be some pictures when we get back.

We are headed to the Land Between the Lakes (LBL).  We will be hiking the trail system Fort Henry Trails.  There are a total of 29.3 miles of trails and 250+ feet change in elevation.

I am looking forward to hitting the trails and will let you all know how it all turns out.

A Song I Wrote For Alee

(download)

This is the final draft of the song that I wrote for Alee.  I did the best I could.  I would like to add some guitar later but I need a better place to record.  My room is too loud.  My dad suggested I go outside.  That isn't a bad idea.  I've been working on this thing for over 3 months.  I hope you all enjoy it.

p.s. It takes a few seconds to get started.

Camping!

As I said a few days ago my friend, Andrew, was coming down to visit for the weekend. He, Alee and I went camping tonight (actually I'm in my tent writing this right now). Now we are trying to go to sleep but it is a bit windy for me.

This first picture is of a frog that I found on my bag. It jumped onto my monkey man jacket.

The next two are of my great cooking skills. We had fire roasted pita pizzas. They are one of my specalties.

This last picture shows how creative Alee is. Because it was so windy she made a barrier to keep the wind away from the fire. She is awesome!

Needless to say, we have had a fun time so far. We just hope it doesn't rain anymore than the sprinkles we got earlier.

Getting back outside!

N684950443_3107146_6097

I was browsing through some of my pictures and I found this one of Zac, Andrew, Michael and me on a backpacking trip the summer of '08.  Oh, how I miss the trips that we used to go on.  I have so many memories of our trips to the backcountry (Knob Stone, Cranberry Wilderness, and the RRG).  I really miss being outside hiking and camping.  Andrew is coming in this weekend and we are going comping.  I haven't been in a while so it will be a nice change in my routine.

Starting this weekend I want to get out more and do more outside.  The wonderful Lord gave us His backcountry to play in, so I might as well do it while I am on this earth.  Hopefully our schedules work out so that over the Thanksgiving break Zac, Andrew and I can get back to the RRG at least for 1 night.
